VII Retail & Development Business Summit 2019 was held in Kiev

The program of business sessions was attended by 26 TOP-speakers of Ukrainian and foreign markets

On December 5, the VII Retail & Development Business Summit 2019, an international retail and development industry event, was held at the Parkovy Exhibition and Convention Center. The organizer was the Association of Retailers of Ukraine, a specialized association of leading players in the retail and commercial real estate market.

The program of business sessions was attended by 26 TOP-speakers of the Ukrainian and foreign markets. And about 500 guests became participants in the Summit, among them the owners and top management of retail companies, retail real estate, investment and banking sectors.

“Challenges: what retail will be like in Ukraine and in the world 2025” – that was the main theme of the Summit this year. Within 7 business sessions, the speakers talked about: transforming retail and shopping centers, how to sell quickly and efficiently, synergies of sales online and offline, the experience of international retailers, food halls and food courts, as well as shopping and entertainment centers of Ukraine in an era of change.
In Session №1 “Looking into the future. How retail and shopping centers are transforming ”invited guests from abroad spoke: Gaston Gaitan, the founder of Theleisureway, and Serdar Ersoy, Chief Operations Officer at DeFacto, as well as Dmitry Andrievsky, commercial director of SystemGroup. In particular, Serdar Ersoy spoke about the competition between online and offline stores, and also shared the experience of the first reasonable store DeFacto, and Turkey in general. And Dmitry Andrievsky in his speech emphasized omnichannel, technologies for consumers and retailers, and the self-service trend.

In Session No. 2 entitled “Technologies in retail. How to sell quickly and efficiently. Part 1 ”came together Stanislav Grigorenko, co-owner of SmartBot.studio, Alexey Shcherbatenko, managing partner, SmartTender.biz and Mikhail Gorfunkel, director of special projects, GLORY Global Solutions. Stanislav Grigorenko spoke about the future of chat bots in retail and how to implement changes using the application. Alexey Shcherbatenko analyzed how artificial intelligence helps determine the likelihood of winning a bid and demonstrated the purchase cases of Epicenter K, METRO and Comfy.

Maxim Gavryushin, the operational director of the Budhouse Group during the speech touched upon the topic “Retail: apocalypse or renaissance”, noted that “there is no systemic problem in retail, there are individual problems for retailers”, he spoke about the interests of generation Z, the evolution of retail real estate. And also dispelled myths. In particular, that online trading will replace physical stores. “If physical stores are a thing of the past, then why do leading online players invest billions of dollars in their physical presence?” Amazon bought a $ 14 billion chain Whole Foods plans to open 3,000 Amazon Go stores. 1,000 stores a day are planning to open the Chinese online retailer JD. What does Amazon look like in 2019? This is no longer an online player. Whole Foods, Amazon Go, Amazon Fresh Pickup, Amazon Books … – this is all the reality of 2019. Amazon is no longer an online player, it goes offline. And this happens not only with Amazon, ”said Maxim Gavryushin.

Maxim Skirda, FONDY’s business development manager, spoke about the impact of the customer’s journey on the purchase process, as well as the main obstacles to this. The topic was continued by Alexey Knyazev, managing partner of Watcom Group, co-founder of Shopster, who also emphasized the assessment of communication channels and their impact on traffic, talking about the IKEA case.

The end of Session №3 was a panel discussion with the participation of Andrey Logvin, co-founder and CEO of Kasta, Sergey Badritdinov, CEO of Intertop-Ukraine LLC and Maxim Gavryushin. The moderator was Yekaterina Venzhik – Ukrainian economic journalist, head of special projects at Liga.net.

“The experience of international retailers.” That was the name of Session No. 4. Within the framework of the topic, presentations were made by: Alexey Panasenko, Deputy General Director for Operations of LLC NOVUS Ukrainy and Marina Tomash, Advisor, Head of Tax Consulting and Accounting, ADER HABER. Then Serdar Ersoy, Chief Operations Officer DeFacto and Yuriy Petrenko, managing partner and attorney of ADER HABER joined the speakers to hold a panel discussion and discuss current issues of Ukrainian companies abroad and international companies in the Ukrainian market.
